Philip Binns is Vice President and General Manager of the Spectroscopy Solutions Division within Agilent Technologies Chemical Analysis Group. Agilent Technologies, Inc. is one of the world's premier measurement companies. In Australia, the group (formerly Varian Australia) research, develop, and market globally a range of scientific instruments that are key tools used in industrial, environmental, food, life science and materials analysis. The Australian organization is the global headquarters for the products it designs and develops. The company has won four Australian Export awards, has been awarded the Prince Philip Prize for Industrial Design and has received four American IR&D Awards for design excellence. In 2009 the company was named Victorian Exporter of the Year and won the awards for Innovation and Large Advanced Manufacturer in the same year.
Philip. joined the organization in 1994, after beginning his career in the mining and minerals industry. He has held management positions in product marketing and development, and sales and operations. In 2004, he was appointed General Manager of Varian’s field operations in the Pacific Rim, which included the subsidiary operations in Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan and South East Asia. In 2010 Philip was appointed by the Federal government to chair the Future Industry Innovation Council and in 2012 has served on the Prime Minister’s Manufacturing Task Force. He is a member of The University of Melbourne’s Industry Advisory Group, and is a National Councillor with the Australian Industry Group. Philip has a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science along with a post-graduate diploma in Marketing and an MBA from The University of Melbourne
